Muay Thai Boran Fists boxing techniques

Muay Thai Boran Fists boxing techniques Video Clips.

Duration : 2.60 Mins.

Muay Boran (Thai: มวยโบราณ, lit. "ancient boxing") is an umbrella term for the unarmed martial arts of Thailand prior to the introduction of modern equipment and rules. It is the ancestor of modern Muay Thai. The word muay which means boxing comes from the Sanskrit term mavya, while boran or boraan means ancient in Thai. The art is significantly different from its modern descendent. Whereas Muay Thai is often called the "science of eight limbs", muay boran is said to make use of nawa awut which means nine weapons and refers to the hands, legs, elbows, knees and head. Knockouter - Punching Power, Speed Meter For Martial Arts and Boxing

How good is your punching power? Is it enough for knockout punches? Many athletes and martial artists ask these questions, but there was no way to measure it at home without expensive equipment (punching power meter). Now you can do it. This punching speed measurement program is the best training tool for combat sport, martial arts and boxing. Use it during shadow boxing. It works without speed/heavy bag, boxing gloves and sparring partners.

There are many components to a punch:

Muay Thai in Thailand

1- Speed of the arm of the punching hand.

Smile Thailand Knockouter - Punching Power, Speed Meter For Martial Arts and Boxing

2- Speed of the shoulder of the punching hand. (Yes, the shoulder does move forward about 6 inches)

3- The speed of the torso or trunk of the body turning. The torso can actually advance the punch another 8 inches.

4- The speed of your step into the punch if it is an attacking punch.

Here are a few simple things you can do to help increase your punching speed:

1) In martial arts and combat sports such as Karate, Taekwondo, and Muay Thai, use heavy bags, standing bags, and similar apparatuses which have been adapted for practicing kicking and other striking maneuvers

2) Warm up before you start. Start slowly, but do complete motions. Each time, punch a little faster than the last time, until you are moving at full speed and power. Your speed will not increase over night. The process may take several weeks until you notice a difference.

3) One of the best known methods to improve the punching power is to hold dumbbells in each hand and practice throwing punches in the air. This is a proven method to increase the speed and punching power. It is said that Bruce Lee used 10 lb. dumbbells in order to improve his speed and punching power.

How would you like a significantly faster punch in just one week? You can practice those techniques on your own. It's easy, and it works. And monitor your progress with Punching Speed Measurement Tool Knockouter for free!

Boxing Rankings

Boxing rankings are important for a number of reasons. First of all, individuals are able to find out what place their favorite boxer holds in comparison to other boxers. This is good to know for the average boxing enthusiast. Then there are those who make themselves a little cash off of boxing matches. It helps them to know the rankings so that they know who is the best bet. They are certainly not going to bet thousands of dollars on a fighter who ranks of number ten when the number ten boxer is going to fight number two. If it were not for rankings, they would have to figure out these details on their own, which can be quite difficult and could result in a large loss of money.

They do say that boxing rankings are usually pretty accurate, which allows an individual to make an informed decision regarding which boxer to support, whether they are gambling or not. This allows fans to know how their boxer stands up to the rest and even allows fans to pick new boxers to support.

The gambler

Tour in Smile Thailand Present Boxing Rankings

Just think of how much money someone betting on a boxer would lose if it were not for boxing rankings. Sure, they could try to track down the wins and losses, but that would require extensive research. That extensive research then leave more room for error. When thee are large sums of money at stake, this can be very dangerous. It is true that a person can go by the boxing rankings and still lose the bet due to the underdog pulling out a surprise victory. However, the odds are better by abiding by boxing rankings than trying to go about the bet blind. This means that there is a lesser chance that the gambler will lose the money that they have put down on the bet.

The non-gambler

The non-gambler is one that is going to use boxing rankings strictly for the love of the sport. This is the person that lives, eats, breathes, and simply loves boxing and likes to know who is on top, especially if it is a boxer they enjoy. Then again, they may find another boxer that they wish to follow based solely on the boxing rankings. This can be both fun and rewarding because it is then that they can choose which boxers they think would be amazing to see live.

So if you find you enjoy boxing and you want to know which boxers are at the top of their game, check out the boxing rankings to find out. You may be both surprised and enlightened at who is near the top. You may even find yourself following a particular boxer. That would make you a right out fan.

Muay Thai Vs Boxing - The Great Debate

For anyone growing up a boxing fan over the last century, it was always a thrill to watch real power punchers. They were "warriors," able to end a bout with one quick strike or pummel opponents into oblivion with violent flurries. Sonny Liston, George Foreman and Mike Tyson are three names forever associated with power and intimidation in the ring.

In Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), a rapidly growing alternative to boxing, Muay Thai has emerged as the discipline of choice for the modern "warrior," the modern Tysons of the world. Instead of boxers, these warriors are consistently the most feared strikers in the sport.

Muay Thai in Thailand

Take the UFC, for example. Jumping across weight classes, we find many famous knockout artists who use Muay Thai as their primary weapon. Kenny Florian is known for bloodying foes with lethal elbows. Thiago Alves turns heads with this Pit Bull mentality (and nickname) in the welterweight division; Wanderlei Silva, devastating in the clinch, is among the most feared strikers ever in MMA and now joins equally revered Anderson Silva in the middleweight division. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has dispatched many MMA legends with his sheer aggression and powerful Muay Thai combination's. We also can't forget Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos, a gladiator who has walked through the Strikeforce women's lightweight division.

Tour in Smile Thailand Present Muay Thai Vs Boxing - The Great Debate

All this talk of boxers and Muay Thai practitioners in MMA today begs the question: which is the more effective style? Muay Thai fighters get our hearts racing but don't elite boxers in MMA like Vitor Belfort, BJ Penn and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira deserve just as much praise?

Let's break down the pros and cons of each discipline in an MMA context.

MUAY THAI: Pros

Some MMA brass argue that, because Muay Thai incorporates more of the entire body, it's better suited for MMA than boxing is. Whereas boxers, naturally, do everything with their hands, Muay Thai fighters turn all their appendages into weapons. They can unleash punches but also elbows, kicks (high and low) and knees.

A prime example is Thiago Alves defeating Matt Hughes with a flying knee.

Another key advantage is its use of the clinch. Unlike boxers, who tend to avoid it when attacking, Muay Thai fighters can inflict some of their best damage when clutching an opponent's neck in a clinch. There's probably no more famous example in MMA than Anderson Silva's two defeats of Rich Franklin.

BOXING: Pros

While Muay Thai gives fighters a wider arsenal of attacks, boxing is perhaps a more cerebral form of striking in MMA, as it relies more on timing and is equally useful for offense and defense. Jabs are used to keep opponents at bay and control the pace of a fight and boxers are generally excellent at anticipating and blocking enemy strikes.

Because they focus on their punches so much, boxers can be more effective when they do land a square shot. Remember Dan Henderson's devastating knockout of Michael Bisping at UFC 100? Henderson, a wrestler who uses boxing when standing, took his time, cocking his right fist until the time was right to explode.

MUAY THAI: Cons

As flashy as Muay Thai is, it's very offense-heavy. It focuses so much on obliterating opponents that it often leaves fighters in vulnerable positions as they attack. Wanderlei Silva, for example, is a fearsome warrior, but few fighters eat more punches than he does. He's so busy going for a knockout that he doesn't think to defend counter attacks.

BOXING: Cons

While boxing rewards the patient, any boxers in MMA who stay back on their heels too much may hurt themselves with the judges. Whereas flashy Thai fighters can score quick points with their aggression and pace, boxers who don't have KO power sometimes don't do enough to win. Also, if opponents do close the gap on boxers, the boxers are at a big disadvantage. The key in that type of situation is to develop good dirty boxing, as Randy Couture has.

THE VERDICT

Ultimately, the best solution is to deploy a combination of Muay Thai and boxing skills. Kenny Florian is among the best at doing so; he keeps opponents at bay with his strong jab and can inflict plenty of damage if they get too close.

The ideal MMA fighter may be one who combines Muay Thai's clinch work and use of knees and elbows with boxing's crisp punching and defensive responsibility.

Where Can I Find Good Boxing Gyms in Singapore?

There are several serious boxing gyms in Singapore, but as for now , they are quite few and far between. Most Singaporeans prefer to join a big gym and get the benefit of the classes there, but this article will tell you about the boxing gyms that specialise in teaching specific martial arts and boxing techniques in Singapore. When you do look out for these gyms, you need to see what sort of courses they offer. I recently visited one called Combat Academy and they had a pretty good assortment of classes.

Firstly, there have the 'hardcore' look that most of serious boxers are looking for but it is finely balanced with the modern amenities that allow even newbie's to enter and not feel threatened. The courses that were offered were quite special and specific, including tactical boxing, kick boxing, Muay Thai, Krav Maga and even the dangerous and mysterious Brazilian Jujitsu. The art of self defence and martial arts was well covered. The good thing about gyms like these is that boxing and its many forms are a great sport for anyone to get involved in and they give you discipline and teach you self defence to avoid those sticky situations.

Muay Thai in Thailand

The misconception is that it is all about attack and aggression and nothing could be farther from the truth. The thing about boxing and all its forms is that is teaches you to be in control, read the situation and react accordingly. What I learned about boxing and boxing gyms is that it is more a question of keeping a level head and getting out of a situation then moving into one. You are not a tank ready to roll past the enemies, but more like a Humvee, moving in and out of hot spots, tactical yet with some element of power within you. Boxing and all its forms is also an excellent way for anyone to get fit, because a 2 hour session in a boxing gym is the equivalent of a 3 hour cardio and weights session in a normal workout environment. Not only do you burn calories and stay strong, you build lean muscle and learn a new talent at the same time.

Smile Thailand Where Can I Find Good Boxing Gyms in Singapore?

The price is also very reasonable and it allows for almost anyone to get started soon enough. They are not in the business of building cage fighters but forming level headed and informed disciplined individuals. Besides Combat Academy, there are quite a few others in and around Orchard Road. The Singapore Sports Academy also provides to the public, at a cost, boxing lessons. As you can see the options are not limited and in the years to come, more and more of these facilities will be built and made available to people in Singapore.

Once you see the benefit of boxing and how it can change your life, you will be thinking about giving boxing gyms in Singapore a try and if you have been doing it for a while, then you will have opportunities to extend your training.

Muay Thai Boxing

Because Thai boxers are allowed kick with their feet and use their elbows, Muay Thai requires a lot more skill than western boxing and can seem to be a much more brutal show. Yet, there is often a level of respect between the fighters that makes it a more honorable sport than the pugilism you may be used to back home. And, rather than the rap or heavy metal music that plays at many American matches, you will often hear traditional wood winds and chimes at a boxing match in Thailand! What you may not know is that Muay Thai is part of Thailand's ancient heritage.

Thai Boxing In History

Muay Thai in Thailand

Traditional Thai boxing goes back hundreds of years and has been an important part of the country's history. Many people are surprised that Thais, a notoriously peaceful people, excel at this beautifully brutal sport. The reason they do so is that for hundreds of years the survival of their nation depended on it. Because the terrain on the Thailand borders is often rough and uneven, it was not in the Thai's advantage to develop long range weapons to ward off invaders.

Smile Thailand Muay Thai Boxing

Instead they decided to create a close hand to hand style of fighting that would lead to battles that favored the defenders over the invading armies - who would never understand the local terrain as well as the patriots they were fighting. As long ago as the mid 1500s, the celebrated warrior king Naresuan The Great - a boxing legend - made Muay Thai a mandatory part of his army's military training.

Perhaps the most famous instance of Thai boxing in the countries history came 200 years later when the warrior Nai Khanom Tom was kidnapped by Burma during a raid on Siam's capitol. After he was captured he made a challenge to his Burmese captors. If he could take on 10 of their best fighters at once and win, Burma would free him and his people. Thinking that they would easily prevail, the Burmese agreed. Nai Khanom then used his Muay Thai skills to defeat all 10 adversaries and return to Thailand as one of the nation's greatest heroes!

Modern Muay Thai

For much of its history Muay Thai was a brutal dangerous sport. It was raw hand to hand combat - with ropes and cords wrapped around the hands instead of gloves. As Thailand has entered the modern age, the rules have changed slightly to protect the fighters, who now wear padded gloves and protection for their groins. While boxers can still use their elbows and feet during the match most of the other rules have been modified to comply with international boxing regulations. This has allowed the popularity of Muay Thai to spread throughout the world and today you can find Thai Boxing training centers in most of the western world including the United States and Russia.

In Thailand itself Muay Thai is even more popular than soccer and is broadcast on television five to seven nights a week. Many of the fighters begin training when they are only seven or eight years old and some have made the move to western style boxing - and become international stars in their own right! The best modern Muay Thai combatants fight in the Lumpini or Ratchadamnoen stadiums to a universally packed audience. If you want to see a fight and not have to face very long lines, your best bet is to go to one of the stadiums around 6:30 p.m. on a Sunday - when attendance is at its lowest point for the week. There are usually several lower ranked fights before the main event - which you can expect to kick off around 9 p.m.

The Rules

Of course, Muay Thai has its own unique set of rules which may be confusing at first to a western spectator. Before the fight can begin, each fighter must perform a wai khru dance as a way to show respect for his teachers and trainers.

There are only five rounds.

Boxers must wear gloves.

The gloves must weigh at least six ounces.

Gloves can not be squeezed in any way that would alter their original shape.

Each round is three minutes long and there is a two minute break in between rounds.

The winner is decided by knockout or by points. Whoever wins the most rounds wins the fight.

Contestants can only wear red or blue trunks.

Shirts and shoes are not allowed.

Both fighters must wear groin protection.

Before the fight a sacred cloth called the Mongkol may be worn as a headband. It must be removed before the fighting begins. The cloth is worn to pay homage to the fighter's trainers and heritage. It is also thought to give the fighter good luck. All equipment must be provided by the stadium. This includes a stopwatch, a signal gong, a warning bell, boxing gloves, water, jock straps and surgical tape.

Learning Muay Thai

Some men, after watching these beautiful guys pummel each other in the ring are tempted to learn the sport themselves. While that used to be impossible - as local trainers for centuries would only train local Thai men starting from a young age, all that changed in 1997. That's when the World Muay Thai Council established the first recognized training academy for the sport. The Muay Thai Institute in Rangsit, just north of Bangkok was created as a way to make this cherished sport accessible to everyone and preserve its fabled heritage.

All of the teachers at the institute are former champions and they are required to speak English. They will teach anyone and everyone - including women and foreigners. The course covers most of the historical and cultural background of Muay Thai as well as the physical skills and fitness training. You can take classes to learn how to be a referee or on how to start your own stadium or training program. Dormitories are available but you might be considerably more comfortable taking a nearby hotel for your 15 day stay.

The first three levels of training cost roughly 0 per course, while the fourth, expert level course is much more rigorous and costs about ,200. School management can help you with any student visa issues that may pop up.

Come And Enjoy The Show

Whether you want to just sit back and watch the guys fight, or if you want to lace up your gloves and join in yourself, Thai boxing is something no one should miss on any trip to Thailand.
