The Cheapest Days and Times to Book Your Vacation

We all need a vacation now and again and heading to an exotic island or a snow covered mountain might be just what the doctor ordered. However, the high prices of vacation getaways generally keep the majority of the population at home or taking the same boring vacation year after year. However, did you know that you can book the vacation of your dreams and save a lot of money? That is right, all you have to do is check on your dream vacation package and book it on the cheapest days for that destination, and you will save hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Where will you find this information? Online, of course!

The Off Season

Tour In Thailand in Thailand

Every destination has an off season, or a period of the year when prices go down. The off season might be due to the weather or the flux of tourists, but regardless there are off season rates for whatever destination you are considering. What you need to do to find off season rates is learn when the off season is for your particular vacation destination. This is generally very easy and all you need to do is check online. In fact, there are many websites for hotels, airlines, tour operators and the like in your vacation destination that will tell you up front the high season and low season rates. Then, you can simply determine what dates during the off season you would like to travel and book your vacation. You will save a significant amount of money and enjoy the vacation with less tourists, more hotel attention, and will love the fact that you chose to travel in the off season.

In Thailand The Cheapest Days and Times to Book Your Vacation

Many individuals have a poor conception of off season travel because they believe it is a bad time to visit the specific location and they won't enjoy that particular vacation during the off season. This is not necessarily the case and many times the high season is determined by when the tourists show up in hoards. For example, June through August is high season at most beaches in the United States, however this is considered off season for parts of South America and their beaches. Of course, down south the sun is still shining and the weather beautiful, but hotel rates and even airline rates are considerably lower. Because of this, when you want to take a great vacation figure out your budget, do a little research, and before you know it you will find the off season rates for the destination of your dreams that you can finally afford!

Dodging Punches

If you were attacked and your opponent was in range, would you be able to dodge the punch? Could you get out of the way before it made contact?

Do you think you could be successful at dodging a punch?

Muay Thai in Thailand

My answer to the above question? Not At That Distance

Tour Dodging Punches

What some people call dodging a punch, I call "turning off." I also refer to it as passing the hit.

Do you practice pivoting your body, to reduce the force of the blow?

Punching Exercises

Imagine standing squared off against a practice partner. You are both in neutral positions -- neither foot is in a lead position.

Suddenly, your partner punches with his or her left fist toward the right side of your chest. In the exercise, you are supposed to pivot your right side back, so your partner's fist goes whooshing by.

Ideally, your partner's fist completely misses any contact with your body or just barely grazes it as it flies past.

Does the above sound like a good exercise to practice?

Have you practiced this way in the past?

Do you start from a distance where your partner is close enough to hit without stepping in?

I don't practice this way.

Practice At a Better Distance

If your partner is close enough to hit without stepping, then I wouldn't advise you passing his punch.

Why?

You don't have time.

If the person facing you doesn't telegraph technique -- in other words doesn't accidentally move the body before the punch -- then you don't have a chance. You won't be able to turn off in time.

The punch will come in quickly. Too fast for your response.

Turning off works fine, if you have enough distance and/or time to respond. For example, passing a slow punch could definitely work to your advantage.

But if your opponent has a fast punch, the hit will be in and out before you even start to respond.

Argentine Cowboys - The Gauchos

Just as the cowboy was and is an integral part of the North American West, so the Gaucho remains an inextricable part of Argentine Patagonia. This vast area of flat land in the southern cone of South America lends itself perfectly to the raising and herding of enormous herds of cattle and sheep. Hundreds of thousands of heads of cattle, sources of beef and leather must be watched over and moved from place to place as the seasons dictate.

There are various theories about the origins of the word "gaucho" but the fact remains that it has denoted the Argentine version of a cowboy for at least a couple of hundred years. The gauchos, like their North American Cowboy counterpart, are a tough breed, used to long days in the saddle and living, at least in part, off the land. Indeed, it is from their habit of roasting beef and lamb over an open fire that the Argentine tradition of asado has come from, a barbecue on a rather larger scale. Due to their mixed ancestry, the gaucho tends to mix features of both native Americans and black slaves, as well as the poorer immigrants who flocked to the New World from Spain after the conquest.

Tour In Thailand in Thailand

The simple way of life of the Argentine gaucho has given rise to various highly regarded culinary traditions, such as the asado, for which people actually construct special pits so as to be able to roast entire sheep over a huge bonfire without having to worry about their houses catching fire. Chimichurri also comes from the gauchos, a hot sauce very popular as an accompaniment to your asado.

Tour Argentine Cowboys - The Gauchos

Guachos haven't always had the best of reputations. There was a time when they were actually despised for their unfortunate habit of hunting indiscriminately on the plains and of slicing the tendons in animals' hind legs to keep them from running away. Since they had to travel light, just themselves and their horse, they also developed a reputation for thievery and consequently became very unpopular.

However, when the colonies began to rebel against Spanish rule, the guacho came into his own. Used to spending long periods of time in the saddle, having developed excellent horsemanship and used to fending for himself, often alone with a hundred thousand cows, the guachos were strong and fearless in battle and proved themselves again and again against the Spanish.

The original gaucho was easily recognized by his baggy trousers, an import from Europe, specifically Turkey, his long curved knife or facon, his horse and his boleadoras, three hard balls of leather connected by long leather straps which he used to bring down runaway animals or during hunting. Often these were his only possessions and with them he carved out a hard life on the vast flatlands of the Patagonian pampas. As was often the case with the North American cowboys, the gaucho developed a reputation for hardness, a sense of justice and great courage, all highly important qualities when the majority of your life is spent miles from any kind of civilization and you must protect yourself and what you value at all times, with only the most basic tools and your own strength of character.

After the Spanish were evicted from the New World and just as they were becoming popular once more among the general populace for their behavior in battle, the gaucho declined and almost disappeared from view altogether. However, since the vast herds of cattle remained and by far the easiest and quickest way to get around the land is on horseback, the gaucho made a comeback and still exists today. You are unlikely to see him in the cities, but if you head out to the pampas, particularly any working estancia or ranch, you will see him in all his glory, usually astride a horse. Whether he is on horseback or not, he will move with a straight back and his head held high, completely aware of his importance to the ranch and proud of his ability to do his job better than anyone else.

Benefits of Martial Arts Training For Kids

Admit it. When the going gets tough at home, we've all plopped the kids in front of the television and breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, we can get started on dinner, maybe check email or sort that massive pile of laundry.

But when your five-year old yells at you "Mom, Kids Rule!" or your ten-year old horrifies you with language that would make a sailor blush, you realize there must be something amiss with what these "family programs" really teach our kids. And sadly, its happening all over the media today, from sports to cartoons, and our children are learning things that we, as parents, vowed we would never teach them. Old fashioned values like respect and self-discipline, seems to have been forgotten, replaced by the dreaded "bling bling" pop culture of today.

Muay Thai in Thailand

Just the thought of your angelic three-year old morphing into a designer-clad, smart-mouthed, money-worshipping, me-obsessed, lay-about is enough to make any parent consider that threatening military school brochure, but there is a solution out there to consider.

In Thailand Benefits of Martial Arts Training For Kids

Martial Arts training.

From Ninja Turtles to The Karate Kid

You and your kids have all seen the flying kicks, battle cries and mighty chops of their favorite TV characters, as they beat the bad guys to submission - but, you may ask, how on earth can these acts of violence teach my child anything worthwhile?

First, know that what you see on television (save perhaps the Karate Kid) is a far cry from what real martial arts are all about. The fact is, martial arts training is based on non-violence.

Originating in Asia (mainly Japan, China and Korea, although Thailand and Vietnam have their own practices as well), martial arts range from a variety of types and styles, all of which are based on well-rounded, moral teachings. The beauty of learning martial arts is that it encompasses not just the physical aspect of the "sport", but mental and emotional lessons as well.

Comparing that to other kid's activities and sports, where fierce competitiveness and "winning at all costs" seems to be the order of the day, it's not surprising that many children grapple with issues of self-esteem and misplaced aggression.

Now imagine your child actually learning valuable life lessons, skills that he will take throughout life, laying the foundation for a happy, well-adjusted and fulfilled adult life. If only karate for kids was popular in the 70's, when I was growing up!

The Advantages

o Karate, and other martial arts for kids, builds confidence and self-esteem as well as self-discipline, respect, concentration and courtesy.

o Many martial arts schools also offer leadership courses for kids, in conjunction with their karate for kids programs, or similar lessons.

o Martial Arts is ideal for children who do not do well in team sports, giving them the ability to flourish this activity, while combining physical and mental practices.

o Many do not realize this, but it is a fact that martial arts training are safer than most school sports.

o Children with special needs, such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), learning difficulties and hyperactivity are often recommended to participate in martial arts for kids because of the clear benefits in its structured training techniques.

Kung-Fu Master or Ninja Warrior?

Before you sign up Junior for the first martial arts class you see, take some time to check out the different methods available, and match it with what you know would suit your child best. This is a good way to avoid any problems that may sprout from a conflict of your child's personality and the training techniques.

Is your little Zach a sensitive soul? Then maybe a class that doesn't center on sparring (full-on kicks and punches training) but rather, slower, defensive maneuvers would fare better for him. Kids with an aggressive streak, however, may prefer the more forceful moves and thrive in competitive sparring.

Here's a quick primer on the kid-friendly martial arts training you're likely to find:

Martial Arts From Japan

Karate

o Uses defensive and aggressive moves

o Centers on building strength and endurance

o Involves chops, punches, kicks, strikes, blocking and sparring

o May use weapons

Jujitsu

o Uses defensive and aggressive moves

o Involves lots of sparring

o Teaches a fair amount of weapons training

Aikido

o Uses a more "spiritual" and harmonious style in redirecting the aggression of the attacker as the form of defense, using throws, pins, rolls etc.

o Taught on the premise of disabling an aggressor without attacking, through your individual inner energy

o Does not involve sparring or competitions

Judo

o Uses gentle, "wrestling-like" movements

o Considered one of the safest methods of martial arts

o Emphasizes physical control as well as mental development

o Engages in competitions

Martial Arts From China

Kung-Fu

o The generic term referring to Chinese martial arts with a variety of styles

o Involves attack movements as well as defensive techniques

o Teaches kicks, punches, chops, throws, falls, grappling, katas, leg sweeps and blows among others.

o Engages in sparring competitions

Martial Arts From Korea

Taekwondo

o Competitive in nature, involves techniques using elaborate footwork and unique high kicks.

o Emphasizes strength, force and attack methods.

o Engages in lots of sparring and competitions.

Choosing The Right Instruction

If you have an idea of the type of martial arts class you'd like your child to participate in, the next step would be to find the right school. Finding the right class that not only matches your child's and your needs, in terms of teachers you feel comfortable with, the price, facilities and so on, are all important factors.

Say you've found a local place that specializes in Karate for Kids. What are the things you should look for?

1. Good Instructors

Check out their qualifications, teaching methods and watch carefully how they interact with the other children. It should be a fun learning experience!

2. Space and Safety

Obviously you would want to entrust your child in as establishment that is safe, well-maintained, and clean with ample space as well as decent facilities and equipment.

3. School Values

Different martial arts schools inevitably go by different values, for instance, one kid's karate class may handle aggression in one way, while a judo class would have a different approach. Take some time to observe which school's ideals match your family's principles.

4. Prices and Schedules

Prices for martial arts training can vary according to school and location, so make sure you the instruction you choose represents fair value. Finding the most effective way to fit martial arts training into your family's lifestyle is also essential, knowing what works best with your schedule and other activities.

Baby Blackbelts

Starting your child young in karate training is ideal (children as young as the age of four are usually accepted, as it is also a good way to hone fine motor skills), and lots of parents have found that in as little as a year, their children who were involved in martial arts had noticeably gained positive traits such as increased self-esteem, respect and overall physical fitness.

Many parents also opt to join a martial arts training program themselves, making it a great bonding experience for the entire family.

Sauces Used in Asian Cooking

The sauces used in Asian cooking can be intimidating and confusing when standing in the grocery store. Here is a simple guide to help with what flavors are found in each sauce and what dishes these sauces work best in.

Soy Sauce: This is a brown sauce with a salty taste. It is available in lite as well as original. It is an all-purpose sauce that blends well with cabbage and fish.

Thai Food Cooking in Thailand

Fish Sauce: This sauce can be intimidating thinking that it will give a strong fish flavor to dishes. The brown sauce is stronger in scent than in flavor. It is commonly used in Southeastern Asian and Thailand dishes.

Tour Sauces Used in Asian Cooking

Oyster Sauce: This oyster flavored sauce is strong in flavor and lends itself well to noodles as well as meat, seafood and vegetables. Start with a small amount as the flavor can be overpowering.

Chili Sauce: This sauce can be spicy or mild. It is often used as a condiment somewhat like ketchup or salsa. It can be added at the end of a stir fry to give the stir fry an extra bit of spice.

Sesame Oil: This is a very mild flavored oil that is used in cool dishes to enhance the background flavor. When heated the oil looses most of its flavor.

Rice Wine: This is a strong vinegar type wine that can be used in dressings or in hot dishes. It blends well with sesame oil and oyster sauce for a simple sauce.

Star Anise: This spice is a combination spice as common as cinnamon. It is best used with beef or poultry.

How to Survive a Knife Attack

Being attacked by someone with a knife is always going to be a dangerous thing, and even a trained martial artist should always make looking for an opportunity to escape and run away the number one priority. But sometimes getting away from your attacker isn't possible, and so you have to stand and fight to defend yourself. If you find yourself in this awful situation there are a few simple things you can do to make sure that you get out of it without serious injury.

The first thing you must do is to reduce the surface area of your body that your attacker has to aim at. You do this by turning side-on to your attacker, rather than facing them directly. This makes dodging an attack easier as well as reducing the area which you need to defend.

Muay Thai in Thailand

At the same time as turning side-on you should also bring your arms up to defend your head and neck. Stab wounds to these areas are the most likely to be fatal, and so they are obviously the most important areas to defend. Your forearms should be crossed in the center and held in front of your face with the back of your hand and forearm facing outwards, as cuts to this side of the arm are less likely to bleed heavily.

Tour How to Survive a Knife Attack

By adopting this position you are not only protecting vital areas of the body, but also limiting and controlling the options of your attacker. Holding your arms in a high guard position whilst standing side-on exposes a large target along the side of the abdomen whilst covering and protecting the rest of the body. In 90% of cases your assailant will attack the unprotected area. This gives you the advantage of effectively knowing what your attacker is going to do even before they do. Controlling options like this means that you only need to know one highly effective martial arts technique to defend yourself, rather than having to learn a different technique for every possible attack.

I will describe this technique shortly, but first you must also be aware that a crazed attacker may still try to get through you guard to attack the head and neck. If this happens you have to be willing to sacrifice. Many martial arts teach complex techniques to defend against all kinds of knife attack. But the problem is that if a technique goes wrong in this situation you could well end up dead, and that is an unacceptable risk. The simple fact that you must remember is that you can't get stabbed in the hand and the neck at the same time with the same knife. You need to be brave and actively push the back of your hand or arm onto the knife (parrying it to the side if possible), whilst using the other hand to strike as quickly and as hard as you can to your attackers face; you can then use the moment in which they are stunned by the strike to get away.

If your assailant tries to stab the open target on your side here is what you should do:

Bend over double, pulling your abdomen back away from the blade. At the same time bring both of your forearms downwards forcefully, keeping them crossed over. You should hit your attackers arm with your arms at the point where they cross over; keep pushing down so that your hands are pointing down and your attackers arm is trapped in the space between them. Now you can grab your attacker's wrist or hand. If they have attacked with the right hand you should take hold with your right hand (which will be on your left hand side) and twist clockwise so the elbow is facing upwards. As they will have put their strength into the strike and will not be expecting this there should be little resistance. Keeping hold with your right hand you can now strike down onto the elbow joint with your left hand, breaking the arm and forcing them to drop the knife.

How Women Dress in the Middle East

Dress code for Women in the Middle East.

For those of you who are about to travel to the Middle East, here is a short article about the dress code in this region. This article will give you a quick idea on why women in the Middle East have a particular dress code.

Tour In Thailand in Thailand

In the Middle East, women must obey the dress code dictated by the Quran (Book of Islam). According to the Islamic faith, women are to be protected from the lustful gaze of men. It is her duty to guard her modesty through following the Islamic dress code. Allah gave laws to protect women and to save them from being exploited by the media and those who wants to use sexuality to lure men into purchasing services or products.

In Thailand How Women Dress in the Middle East

The believing women should according to the Quran "lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof." [Quran: 24.31]

For the men, "Say to the believing man that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that will make for greater purity for them, and God is well acquainted with all they do." [Quran: 24.30].

The conditions of the women's dress code are as follows:

1. Clothing must cover the whole body and only hands and face can be seen
2. Clothing material cannot be see through
3. Clothing cannot look like men's clothing
4. The design of the clothing cannot mimic those of non-believing women
5. The design on clothing cannot attract attention or contain flashy designs
6. Clothing should not be worn for improving status or reputation

In accordance to these guidelines, the following are some clothing commonly worn by women in UAE.

1. Abaya is a long flowing black gown that is very elegant and used to cover female clothing. The Abaya can be both plain and have some designs on it. Other western or local clothing can be worn underneath the Abaya.

2. Hijab is a piece of material covering the head in order to not expose the hair.

3. Gishwa is a thick black veil that covers the face with a material thin enough for the women to see through but thick enough so that others cannot identify the women.

4. Shela is a material to cover the face. In recent times, some Shela are made with designer materials in order to match with popular accessories of trendy brands like Dior or Givenchy.

The dress code mentioned above is for Muslim women in the Middle East. Since the economic growth in many middle eastern countries and being travel destinations, dress code for visitors and non-Muslims are rather relax. For women, keep in mind modesty and try not to dress in tight fitted or revealing clothing would be a good rule of thumb. Shirts, jeans, long skirts are probably safe clothing. Bikinis and shorts are probably acceptable in certain places. If you are dressed revealing more skin, you may get some unwanted attention. Another thing to keep handy would be a veil in case you are visiting or near religious areas, government buildings and museum.

10 "Strength Training" Commandments For Wrestlers!

In part one of this series I discussed some tips to keep your strength and muscle, or even gain some during the wrestling season. In part two of this series I will give you ten sure-fire tips for improving your "wrestling strength" and therefore your wrestling performances. These tips apply to both in-season and off-season training.

1. Train the "Posterior Chain"

Muay Thai in Thailand

The posterior chain muscles are comprised of the glutes, hamstrings, and lower back. This extremely powerful area of the body is a key section to overall wrestling performances. By improving strength in this area you will notice a marked improvement in speed and power in the neutral and bottom positions. Some exercises that you might want to consider in order to work the posterior chain are good-mornings, stiff-leg deadlifts, deadlifts, barbell squats (bar low on shoulders). My two favorites are the reverse hyperextension and the Russian glute-ham-gastroc machine. They are the ultimate in working the posterior chain muscles.

Tour 10 "Strength Training" Commandments For Wrestlers!

2. Strength Train SLOW, Wrestle FAST

You want to be fast and strong on the wrestling mat. Don't think that you should throw weights around when you strength train though. When wrestlers try to move a barbell quickly in their workouts, they are using momentum to help move the weight. You should minimize momentum, and maximize the amount of muscle that gets worked by slowing down. How fast (or slow) should you move a weight when strength training? When you are raising a weight (or contracting the muscle) try to do it in 2 seconds. When you lower the weight, do it twice as slowly. You should take about 4 seconds to lower a weight.

3. Brief Workouts

Your workouts should never exceed 35 minutes in duration. If they do, YOU"RE NOT WORKING HARD ENOUGH! By completing your workout in no more than 35 minutes or so, your body's hormone levels are optimal. Your ability to recuperate from the workouts, and therefore develop more strength, is increased. Avoid long, drawn-out strength training workouts. They will eventually cut into your body's ability to recuperate, and lead to over-training.

4. 12 Exercises Or Less

When I develop sport-specific strength training routines for my athletes, I always adhere to this. This number of exercises will allow you to hit the "wrestling muscles" with just enough, but not too much. Any more will almost guarantee that you will send your body into an overtraining syndrome.

5. 2 Sets Or Less

Read this one carefully, and try to really absorb the content. You should do no more than two work sets (the sets that count. These don't include a warm-up set) for any given exercise. If you are working hard enough, this is plenty. You do a warm-up set for an exercise, then move to your top weight. After you complete that top weight, reduce the total weight on the bar or machine by 20% and repeat. If you are really training intensely, you can do just one work set per exercise. This is the ideal. If you can hammer a muscle with one perfect set of an exercise, there will be no need for another set. I advocate a second set with a 20% weight reduction because many people don't quite hammer that muscle with one set.

6. Fail In The Gym To Dominate On The Mat

Other than your warm-up set for each strength training exercise, you should train your sets to "momentary muscular failure." This is the point where you can no longer complete another repetition with perfect form. By training to momentary muscular failure, you are forcing the muscles to adapt, and therefore get stronger. Let me clarify training to "failure." Training to failure is not "almost taxing the muscle." It is the point where you cannot push or pull another repetition no matter what. Is it safe to train this way? Absolutely! The first few repetitions of a set are actually more dangerous. When an athlete is not using good form, and slower speed, it is usually during these first few repetitions that an athlete gets hurt.

7. Use Machines And Free Weights

There is a common misconception amongst athletes and coaches that you must use free weights when strength training. Free weights are great! So are machines! Your muscles don't know the difference. The intensity is the most important thing when trying to improve your strength for wrestling. The tool that you use to get there is not. I like certain exercises for certain muscles. It also depends on injuries that a wrestler might already have. You can work "around" and injury and still give the body a thorough strength workout. If you have access to Hammer Strength machines, I highly recommend that you include them in your wrestling strength workout.

8. Use A Thick Bar

If you don't have access to a thick bar, get one. This is usually a hollow metal tube that you put free weights on the end of. A thick bar forces you to hold on tightly when performing exercises. It develops fantastic forearm and hand strength. It should be part of every serious strength training program for wrestlers. You can do curls, reverse curls, rows, and presses with it.

9. Keep Up The Protein

Whether you are trying to cut weight or go up a weight class, you need regular feedings of protein. Protein helps to repair and rebuild muscle tissue. It is vital to keep up protein feedings if you are trying to cut weight... unless of course you don't mind losing muscle and getting weaker. Try to get at least 5 protein feedings per day. The difference lies in the carbohydrate intake. If you need to cut weight, you should begin slowly dropping carbs, but never completely. You can't wrestle if you have no energy. Carbohydrates are you body's preferred source of energy. Contact me at steve@sports-strength.com if you're interested in a personalized meal plan for wrestling.

10. The Trap Bar

The trap bar is another incredible piece of equipment when trying to gain wrestling strength. The trap bar is a hexagonally shaped bar. It allows you to perform deadlifts with maximal stimulation of almost every muscle vital to improved wrestling performance. If you've never seen one, do a search on the web. This is an exercise that all of my wrestling clients use. It will make your entire body stronger. If I were limited to only one exercise in order to increase the strength in my wrestlers, this would be the exercise that I'd choose.

Teaching Kids Karate - 3 Games to Keep the Fun in Your Martial Arts Classes

If you are teaching kids karate and your classes are getting smaller and smaller, it's time to take a good long look at what you are teaching your kids! The last thing you want is to lose your teaching job because no one wants to attend your classes! Here are the top 5 martial arts drills and karate games that kids will go crazy for and that will keep them coming back for more!

1. CATCH YOUR TAIL - This game is easy and geared towards the very young student. It encourages agility and speed and laughter. Choose two students; one to be the head of the tiger and one to be the tail. Take a karate belt and tie it to the back of the belt of the "tail" student. Set your watch for 30 seconds and have the tiger head try to catch his tail. I've found this is a favorite when teaching kids karate.

Muay Thai in Thailand

2. THE CIRCLE OF DOOM - Get all kids into a circle with everyone spread out with both arms stretched out between them, far enough apart to not touch the kid next to them. Everybody settles into a horse stance with hands at hips, fists closed.

Smile Thailand Teaching Kids Karate - 3 Games to Keep the Fun in Your Martial Arts Classes

The instructor stands in the centre of the circle and slowly turns looking at each kid as you face them. When you are ready perform an attack against one of the kids so that they can do the block or counter that you have been teaching them.

As soon as their technique is finished move towards another kid on the outside circle and throw the same or a different attack for them to practice against. Don't choose your victims in any order, just turn randomly and pick one out to approach.

When first teaching this, start your attacks slowly and tell them at the start of the game which attacks you will throw. Start with only 2-3 different attacks, as the kids become more comfortable with this game you can increase the number of attacks, the speed and the intensity of the contact you give and receive.

3. HORSE AND SNAKE RELAY - Students form two equal teams of three or more. Start and finish lines are marked 30-60 feet apart. The teams line up one behind the other spaced a couple of feet apart standing in a deep horse stance.

The student at the end of the line yells "Snake", drops to the floor and crawls like a snake through the others legs until they are at the front of the line, they stand up in a deep horse stance and yell "Horse" which signals the student at the end of the line to do the same. Students continue crawling up the line until the whole team has passed the finish line.

The first team over wins.

How to Cook the Best Pasta the Real Italian Way

Most people think cooking pasta is really easy. Just throw some noodles in boiling water and drain it when it is soft enough, right?

Sorry to say, that is wrong. What is hopefully true is that the secrets I am going to reveal to you will make pasta one of your favourite dish to prepare and enjoy by yourself or with your dear ones.

Thai Food Cooking in Thailand

First of all, allow me a short digression. To a serious pasta lover the name "noodles" is plain simply dreadful. Noodles is a very good name for Chinese pasta, or Japanese, or Thai, or any other nationality pasta, but not for Italian pasta. Calling Italian pasta "noodles" would be like calling American baseball or English cricket something like "Stickball". That is just sad.

Tour in Smile Thailand Present How to Cook the Best Pasta the Real Italian Way

Yes, pasta is easy to cook, *if* you have the right ingredients, *if* you know the right way of preparing it, and, above all, if you have the right attitude. "What is this?" - I hear some of you gasp - "I now have to be like a zen archer or a samurai warrior just to prepare a bowl of noodles?" Let's proceed in order, one secret to the next (by the way, didn't we agree never to call pasta noodles again?)

PASTA SECRET #1: ATTITUDE

Let's start with the most important aspect: attitude.

If you feel your guest swooning in delight over your steaming pasta is a good thing, you have to take cooking seriously. Cooking, and especially cooking pasta, is an act of love and self-sacrifice. It requires your personal energy, your prana, your inner and outer purity, and your uninterrupted concentration. Without these elements, cooking is not cooking anymore, but just cold, mechanical, heartless food preparation. Would you feed such food to your dog?

Before even start preparing your utensils, stand in your kitchen, facing the stove and get inwardly ready to cook. Silence around you and inside you is needed. A short meditation would be even better. Soulfulness is essential.

Feel inside you and visualise in front of your mind's eye the final pasta dish you want to prepare. Feel the aroma of the pasta, the looks, the sound the moist pasta strands do when stirred together, even before they are cradled by the sauce. Imagine the joy on the face of the friends that soon will be enjoying it.

Then, act with determination and precision but never with hurry.

Osu: The Meaning Of "Osu" In Karate

The literal meaning of the expression "Osu!" can be determined from the kanji (Chinese characters) from which the term is derived (see above). Osae means "to press" and shinobu means "patience" or "steady spirit". These two symbols are combined in the traditional Japanese martial arts to form Osu, which translates as "persevere while pushing oneself to the absolute limit". A cursory reading of this definition might tempt one to think that advancement in karate than is therefore equated with the development of extreme physical and mental strength. However, to stop at this understanding would be to miss the point of karate completely. Certainly, one can push oneself to the limit in any sport and achieve incredible feats of body and mind. So how is karate different? True growth in the martial arts requires moving beyond ego-centred thoughts of personal gain and loss. For this reason, the term "moving Zen" is sometimes used when speaking of martial arts practice. To illustrate how "pushing oneself to the absolute limit" in moving Zen can lead to spiritual growth, the concept of koan training in zazen (formal seated Zen) is described below.

Zazen practice has its own particular technique, called a koan. A koan is an absurd puzzle. There is no rational way to "solve" it; it is an impossibility, an impasse for the mind. Regardless of your determination to provide the zazen master with the "correct" answer to the riddle, your efforts are futile. Suddenly you are stuck, and the master continues saying to you, "Work hard! You are not working hard enough." And the harder you work (i.e. think), the more you are stuck, moving nowhere: you cannot go back, you cannot move forward. And the master continues hammering you, "Work harder!" A moment comes when you're not holding anything back, your whole being is involved, and still you are stuck. It is precisely at this moment, when your whole energy is invested, that you become aware of the absurdity - as never before. Only at that peak do you "realize" that this problem is absurd-it cannot be "solved" with the mind.

Muay Thai in Thailand

And with that realization, the koan is experienced and therefore understood. In karate, kumite serves as the koan. No matter how hard you train, no matter how much weight you can lift, no matter how fast you are, you may still be defeated. And the Sensei pushes you, "Work harder". It is not until you have given everything you have to give and it is still not enough that you "realize" (experience) the absurdity of your ego trying to overcome an opponent. It is at this moment that the barrier to a deeper source of wisdom is removed. Now your movements, coming without thoughts, may be fluid and precise.

Tour in Smile Thailand Present Osu: The Meaning Of "Osu" In Karate

The key point is that, in both zazen and karate, the koan must be experienced rather than intellectualised in order for transformation to occur. As demonstrated above, the experience cannot occur until one has truly persevered in giving maximum effort. In "Zen, Pen, and Sword," Randall G. Hassle explains that Osu may be used as a strong affirmative reply in the dojo even if full understanding is not yet present. It is similar to the idea of two people riding in a car on an icy road on the edge of a deep canyon. If you are the passenger, and the driver says, "Are you okay?", you might reply "Osu!", indicating that, while there's nothing you can do to make the situation better or less dangerous at the moment, your spirit is satisfied that the best that can be done at the moment is being done.

So, when greeting fellow students or responding to the Sensei in the dojo, saying "Osu!" announces that, even if you do not feel 100 percent today or even if you do not fully understand a training concept, you are present and giving everything you have. In this way, you are preparing yourself to be receptive to the spiritual growth in which the practice of karate - moving Zen - has to offer. A free video streaming course on the Japanese language for martial arts can be found at http://www.Downloadkarate.com which talks about the term Osu and other karate terminology.

Top 10 Upper Human Body Pressure Points For Self Defense

In any fight situation, (street fights, karate fights, etc.) possible body weapons include short jabs and strikes with elbows, knees, and hands. The key to winning any confrontation or street fight is to be aggressive and concentrate your attack on the opponent's vital points in order to end the fight as soon as possible. A knowledge of human body pressure points can be your key to survival.

One way to accomplish this is to focus on your opponent's most vital areas, or pressure points. A body is separated into three main sections: high, middle and low. Each of these sections contains vital targets. The effects of striking these targets could be brutal. In this article, let's take a look at the pressure point of the High Section. This section includes the head and neck and is the most dangerous target area. Areas for attack might include:

Muay Thai in Thailand

(1) Top of the head. The skull is weakest where the front cranial bones join, right between the eyes. A powerful strike could cause trauma to the cranial cavity, possibly resulting in unconsciousness and hemorrhage.

Tour in Smile Thailand Present Top 10 Upper Human Body Pressure Points For Self Defense

(2) Temple. The bones of the skull are weak at the temple and an artery and large nerve lie close to the skin. A strike here could cause unconsciousness or concussion.

(3) Eyes. A slight poke in the eyes causes uncontrollable watering and blurred sight. A forceful jab could cause brief blindness or the eyes could be gouged out. Death could result if the fingers penetrate through the thin bone behind the eyes and into the brain.

(4) Nose. Any blow here could easily break the thin bones of the nose, causing extreme pain and eye watering.

(5) Under the nose. A blow to the nerve center, which is close to the surface under the nose, could cause great pain and watery eyes.

(6) Jaw. A blow to the jaw could break or dislocate it. If the facial nerve is pinched against the lower jaw, one side of the face may be paralyzed.

(7) Chin. A blow to the chin could cause paralysis, mild concussion or unconsciousness. The jawbone acts as a lever that could transmit the force of a blow to the back of the brain where the cardiac and respiratory mechanisms are controlled.

(8) Back of the ears and base of the skull. A moderate blow to the back of the ears or the base of the skull could cause unconsciousness by the jarring effect on the back of the brain. However, a powerful blow could cause a concussion or brain hemorrhage and death.

(9) Throat. A powerful blow to the front of the throat could cause death by crushing the windpipe. A forceful blow causes extreme pain and gagging or vomiting.

(10) Side of neck. A sharp blow to the side of the neck causes unconsciousness by shock to the carotid artery, jugular vein, and vagus nerve. For maximum effect, the blow should be focused below and slightly in front of the ear. A less powerful blow causes involuntary muscle spasms and intense pain. The side of the neck is one of the best targets to use to drop an opponent immediately or to disable him temporarily to finish him later.
